Apps changing the face of takeaway

In the past Menulog was the app that I used to order food when I couldn’t be bothered cooking but since Deliveroo and UberEats have come to my area, I couldn’t help but to compare them all.

Until now Menulog was ok; it was functional and I could get food quickly when I needed it. Lots of places in the surrounding areas were listed but the minimum order (when I first started) was often aprox $25+. Although I think this has changed since the competition has increased and they do a lot of discounts if you haven’t ordered from a restaurant before. I’ve had a couple curries from Vic Park Indian and it was fine.

I had seen Deliveroo around Europe with guys carrying their square backpacks and I thought it was cool that they were now in Perth.

I liked how there was a range of places that you could order from. The fact that you got 2 Qantas Frequent Flyer points for ever dollar that you spend on the app was enough to get me hooked. Since I got a taste of business class travel using my points, I get a little obsessive about getting them where I can.

While Deliveroo doesn’t really match Menulog in restaurant numbers, they really do have the places that I would actually eat from such as Decanters American Tapas and Little Grill Vietnamese.

Today, I felt the need for a Vietnamese Roll so I ordered Ban MI That (Vietnamese Pork Roll) and some Fresh Spring Rolls lunch tomorrow from Little Grill Vietnamese Café. My order came quickly and, despite the bike ride, it looked great.  Little Grill Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

The thing with delivery is that the food is never going to look as good as when you eat it in. A few weeks back I had a Laksa from Chi Restaurant and while it tasted fine, the journey made it look a little tired. But that’s the downside of takeaway. Chi Restaurant Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

UberEats is the power app with the fame surround the Ride Sharing app. It is the app that has been credited with getting the higher end places to do takeaway such as The Precinct in Victoria Park and Long Chim in the city.

I love how you can order from cafés such as Sprolo where you can get a packet of beans if you’re running low but not coffee yet and Little Matcha Girl (even coffee).

I ordered Dim Sum from Emma’s Seafood and Dim Sum. Since eating Dim Sum can get a bit nosey and the crowed alittle annoying, ordering in seems ideal. Emma's Seafood & Dim Sum Restaurant Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

I was able to get Minced Pork and Prawn Dumplings, Steamed BBQ Pork Buns, Pumpkin and Prawn Dumplings and a Short Soup. It was fantastic and it was enough for a small army as well as enough for lunch the next day.

Which app will I use next time?

I love getting Frequent Flyer points on Deliveroo and while the choice was great, I also love UberEats and the cool options available too
